First Trip to the Dentist

Taylor had her first dentist appointment today! We went to a pediatric dentist and it was absolutely GREAT! I want to go there! I'm jealous. You know they're doing something right when your child doesn't want to leave! We show up and there is so much fun stuff to look at in the waiting room, it's jungle themed so there's all kinds of trees with animals hanging from them. There were 2 TV's in the wall and some sort of touch screen coloring game as well. Not to mention 3 different fish tanks in the walls throughout the entire office. It was some serious stimulation overload, but that's why the kids love it. The assistant who cleaned Taylor's teeth was so sweet and made Taylor feel really special. Taylor had her teeth brushed, flossed, and polished. She even used the sucker thing and got to hold it herself during her cleaning. After her cleaning it was time for her Xrays or as they called it " taking a picture of her teeth ". I was shocked at how well Taylor did during the Xrays. She had to wear the heavy cape and bite down on this black block while the large tube thing ( I don't know what those are called ) is pointing at her face and on top of it she was told to stay VERY still for 3 different photos. While we waited for the dentist Taylor got bubbles for being really good. Her next challenge was to let the dentist "count her teeth" and they told her that if she let the dentist do this she gets a gold coin that she can put in the machine and get a toy. Seriously! I was just as excited as she was, everything was so fun and new. She got her prize which was a necklace and ring. Before sending her off she got a Popsicle... what kid wouldn't LOVE this place? We found out some important stuff too. The reason for the Xrays was because she is missing a tooth in the front, we found out the baby tooth is just not there and at this time if there is an adult tooth up there it's too high right now to see. She'll get Xrays again at age 5 to check for that tooth, and we hope it's there because if not we may need to have her get an implant when she is a teenager. The dentist also encouraged me to have her not use a binkie anymore. It'll be really hard to ditch the bink, but we have to do it, he said he can tell her teeth are pushing out a bit and he went thru a long list of cons from prolonged binkie/pacifier use. On to a new challenge then... we are doing really well with the potty training so I guess it's about time to move to Project: Ditch The Bink! For now she has really healthy teeth, no cavities and she LOVES the dentist.
